台湾女作家三毛已去世多年，可是她的确切死因至今仍是一个谜。近日，一本名为《三毛死于谋杀》的图书纷纷出现在上海各家书店中。但其中对三毛的很多事都进行质疑，让人不得不怀疑他用三毛助自己出名的动机。
三毛一生“流浪”过54个国家。1991年1月2日，她因子宫内膜肥厚，住进台湾荣民总医院，3日开刀完成手术。4日清晨，医院清洁女工进入7楼妇产科单人特等病房，打扫浴室的时候，看见坐厕旁点滴架的吊钩上，悬挂着三毛被尼龙丝袜吊颈的身体。她身着白底红花睡衣，现场没有任何遗书。
法医推断三毛死亡的时间是凌晨2时。第二天，台湾所有的报纸都报道了三毛的死讯，香港80余家报纸也对此作了详细报道。然而事隔不到半年，就有各界人士对三毛的死因提出疑问，认为警方的现场勘察太匆忙、“因病厌世、自缢身亡”的结论太武断，会不会有真正的凶犯逃脱法网。
三毛崇敬爱情。1973年，三毛与西班牙美男子荷西在撒哈拉结婚，1979年荷西在北非潜水时丧生，三毛哭得死去活来，从此生活在对荷西的思念中。
三毛热爱祖国。她很早就提出“两岸不能再分离了” 。1985年，她在一个几千人参加的演讲会上唱了中华人民共和国国歌《义勇军进行曲》。她是在台湾第一个把《义勇军进行曲》公开唱出来的人。唱后台下一片肃静，许多人替她担心。
三毛对大陆文化名人张乐平、姚雪垠、贾平凹、王洛宾等有着非同一般的友谊。1989年，三毛到上海与画家张乐平相见，认画家为“爸爸” 。她用上海话告诉画家：“我3岁多就离开了上海，那时我刚懂事，看的第一本书就是《三毛流浪记》，那个到处流浪、永远也长不大的男孩对我影响可大了。许多年以后，当我在异国他乡写第一本书的时候，我就取笔名用了‘三毛’这个名字。”
三毛写过一首《橄榄树》：“不要问我从哪里来，我的故乡在远方，为什么流浪，流浪远方……”这首歌在台湾被禁唱了十几年，因为当局认为歌词中“远方”指的就是中国大陆。1990年12月，三毛编剧的电影《滚滚红尘》参加台湾金马奖角逐，夺取8项大奖，却没有三毛的最佳原著编剧奖。《滚滚红尘》引起台湾某些当权者的愤怒：“刻意歌颂中共、肆意攻击政府、丑化国军……”有人认为，三毛有可能因此成为政治牺牲品。
书中把对三毛死因的各种猜测，比如绝症无望说、孤单寂寞说、为情所困说、没有能力说及自杀情结说等，都一一予以驳斥。书中还引用了10位著名人士对三毛的谈论，认为三毛死得怪异、突然，她没有理由自裁。把三毛的死解释成自杀是对她的不公平，甚至是对她人格的污辱。
